I must admit that it was quite sad to hear at a recent press conference the greatest golfer of the modern era who, at 39 years old, should still have more good years in front of him said that he had, "nothing to look forward to," and "I'm really good at video games. That's how I pass a lot of my time."
There's something really sad about such a talent sitting on the sofa playing his games console (does he play the latest Rory Mcllroy PGA Tour or prefer the older versions of the game when he was on the cover but the graphics aren't as good?) rather than being on the course wowing fans across the world.
I actually think that this may be the end of the road for Tiger; he mentioned in his press conference how he can't even play football with his children and is currently focusing on improving his quality of life rather than targeting a comeback. While I am sure that some of you will feel no sadness in this due to disliking his character - and the man estimated to be worth over 600 million dollars perhaps didn't do himself any favours by saying he has, "nothing to look forward to" - the game of golf will be worse off without him in it. I hope that he manages to get back playing and competing again, but I wouldn't place any money on it.
It is just not Sandiway that has continued discussions about slow play as the R&A and the European Tour recently had a discussion about the issue, with European Tour chief Keith Pelley and the boss of the R&A, Martin Slumbers, both put slow play firmly in their sights as priority.
Both organisations in my opinion should be congratulated for looking at this issue - it takes a long time to play a round of golf and waiting several minutes a hole for someone soon adds up. Let's hope that the game of golf is quick to act on this issue and meaningful change happens. Some of the points raised were, reducing the amount of time to look for a ball to 3 minutes from 5 minutes, putting while the flag is in rather than have the flag attended.
How about these for pictures of the course for the 1st December, after more or less non stop rain for days, and 5 inches of rain fell in November, not a puddle of water in sight. A credit to Brian and his staff for their continued hard work, and I am sure we are in for an excellent 2016.
