Welcome to this weeks newsletter, and for the first time it feels like winter has hit us. As the greens continue to recover after last weeks maintenance, it’s been a quiet one. Only the one competition has been played, Matt did Sandiway proud at Wilmslow and we have plenty of shop offers to tempt you. Enjoy the read.

Matt does Sandiway proud! There's only one place to start this week's newsletter and that’s Matt’s fantastic performance at Wilmslow. |
I could not have been any happier if I had lifted the trophy myself. As most of you already know from my social media posts, Matt, on Monday, won the Cheshire & North Wales matchplay Championship. In a field that included European Tour winner Phil Archer, Matt beat Ben Stanier the assistant at Wilmslow Golf Club at his home course 2&1 to claim his first trophy as a PGA Professional. On his way to the title he beat Josh Charnock of Holywell Golf Club, Oliver Smith of Ashton on Mersey 1 up, Michael Jones of Royal Liverpool 1up and a 2&1 victory over Rhodri Fieldhouse of Clays Golf Centre in the semi final. A fantastic achievement Matt, well done. I still believe that it was my putting tip after 6 holes of the final that was the difference though!!!!!! (I had to get something in).

Ladies Stableford The only competition played here last week was the Ladies Stableford on Sunday. Hollie Ellams continued her good year and took the honours with 31 points. Lynn Shopland and Julie Smyth finishing one point behind with Lynn beating Julie on with a better back 9.

Our customer survey An unbelievable 186 of you kindly completed the customer survey. Matt, Nath and I have been going through your answers to find ways of improving our services and the products we offer to you members. Staying still in any industry means you are going backwards and we are no different, we as a team will always try and improve year on year to satisfy your golfing needs.

This game is hard enough! 68 of you answered that you haven't regripped your clubs in the last 5 years. This game is hard enough without having to play golf with worn grips. They can cause slippage, which in turn causes off-center strikes, less distance and less control. Worn grips do not provide the proper amount of traction, so the tendency is to squeeze the club tighter to maintain control. If any of you are thinking of playing golf this winter, especially in the rain when the grips will lose even more traction, please pop into the shop and give your grips and clubs a good MOT.

Get winter ready There's no hiding from the fact that temperatures have dropped recently and the weather has turned a little wet (didn’t that could have been possible), so you must get your equipment ready for winter golf. One of the most important pieces is your golf shoes, as the last thing you want is to be slipping. After last years disaster with spikes when half of them had fallen out by the time you got to the first green, I have been promised that the problem is now resolved. For ONLY £12.50 we will give your shoes a good MOT.

Our club cleaning service UPGRADE After the success and the positive feedback after the last club cleaning service to raise some money for Charlie Bromley Davenport, he's going one step further. On Sunday, 27 October, after you finish your round, he not only will give your clubs a clean but will also give your shoes and trolley a good clean and will be ready for you when you leave.

Group coaching and playing lessons From the feedback you provided, we will certainly be organising more group coaching. You would have received an email on Tuesday explaining how important the short game is and it’s this area of the game that separates the best from the good and the good from the bad, so please watch out in the coming weeks a number of group classes on the short game. Another service that Matt, Nath and I will offer over the winter months is the opportunity for you to play 18 holes with us. We will provide a bullet point list of what we believe you should be working on in preparation for the 2020 season. As well as this, it keeps us sharp over the quiet winter months! Please contact us if this would be of interest to you. |
