Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. In this week's read, we take a look at how J.B. Holmes endured the elements at the Genesis Open, consider how you can stay on top of your game throughout a day's play, and delve into some of the latest products to land in-store. Enjoy the read! |
6 Nations I know next week will be a difficult newsletter for most of you as it will be a full report of the Wales win against England. Being lucky enough to have a ticket I might even put in a few pictures to go with the report. |

Blue Skies After a few recent pictures of the snow and ice, it's great to show some blue skies. |
Enjoyed Every Minute It is hard to believe, but it's fourteen years last weekend since I arrived here at Sandiway as a young slightly thinner 21 year old as an assistant to Bill, my golf is certainly not as good as it was then, but, more importantly I have certainly enjoying every minute of it. The club and course certainly feels busier now than it did then, but that might just be down to being more involved. Either way, we have a fantastic golf course and club and I hope I am here for many years to come. |
Holmes brings it home Who would of thought that Justin Thomas would have thrown a four shot lead away at the Genesis Open on Sunday, but that's exactly what he did and gift the title to JB Holmes who came in for some negative comments about his slow play. With just six weeks to go until Masters, it surely is bubbling up to be something special. Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth and of course Tiger Woods will all fancy their chances of that green jacket. Keep your eye for my Masters Special offers in the coming weeks. The mental side of the game might not be as glamorous as a textbook swing or new equipment, but is definitely just as important and shouldn't be overlooked if you want to lower your handicap in 2019.

MOT Offer is back Over the course of a golfing season your equipment will degenerate, and there is, unfortunately, no way of avoiding it. Grips will lose their tackiness, shafts will wear, clubfaces will get scratched and dented and the loft and lies of your irons will change. For the third consecutive year now, I will run our MOT plan here at Sandiway to make sure that your equipment is in the best condition possible for the new season ahead. All I ask, is that you bring your current set of clubs into us so we can check your grips, shaft condition and also give your set a deep clean completely FREE of charge. Furthermore, we will happily replace the grip on your current 7-Iron with one of the brand-new Golf Pride grips with our compliments, so you can experience the benefits of having a fresh new grip on your club. |
Demuth Qualifier The re-arranged Demuth qualifier on Sunday saw a fantastic 123 members take part, and once again the scoring was rather impressive, twenty one members played tom their handicap or better but it was Carl Barks who produced the best round of the day, his 43 points, after a couple of short game lessons from Matt he won division two by three points from Gary McIlraith with Graham Vaughan third with 38 points. Division One was a much closer contest with six players within the winning score of 40 points. Jack Hanratty beat the inform Jonathan Oakes on count back after both finished with 40 points. Phil Tickell was the best of the 38 points and finished third. The lucky members who had a two have been credited with £8.86. Teams of Three Seventeen teams of three played last Thursday with the first group out taking the honours with 58 points, the team of Julie Sharratt, Sharon Melrose and Sue Friar, beat the team of Alison Green, Sally Brown and Helen Close by two points. Julie Smyth produced a great round of golf on Saturday that included two 2's on her way to 36 points and was four points ahead of Alison Green and Lynn Shopland. |
We all love new golf equipment – be it balls, clubs or shoes; there’s nothing like stepping out onto the course knowing that everything in your bag is in pristine condition. Except, for the majority of golfers, there’s always one thing which is often forgotten about... |
| How old are your grips? |
| Losing control during your swing? |
|
If you pulled a club out of your bag now, what state would your grips be in? You’ll probably notice that they’re at the very least losing some of the tackiness they once had or, in the worst cases, worn away so badly that they’re completely unrecognizable - a clear sign they need to be replaced. The benefits to getting your clubs regripped are huge, and they can even improve your performance. Take the ALIGN grips from Golf Pride; these have a raised edge on the back (red part of grip seen here) to perfect your hand placement every time. |
|
As you can see, we're currently running a promotion where you can get your 7-iron regripped for FREE; all you need to do is pop in-store and decide which of these grips you want to try out. |
