Welcome to this week's newsletter, keeping you up to date with all the latest news, events and offers from here at Sandiway Golf Club. We hope you're having a fantastic week on and off the golf course. Two wins from two for both the Welsh and the English in the Six Nations so I am certainly looking forward to going down to Cardiff in a couple of weeks. Enjoy the read! |
Demuth Qualifier Saturday’s Demuth qualifier was a busy one with 119 entries, and despite the very strong wind and the odd blustery shower the scoring was impressive. Jonathan Carter produced the best score of the day to win division two. His 41 points was four points clear of new member Colin Meadows and Mike Vernon. The best score of the day in division one was from Mark Doran who had three birdies on the back nine to help him to 40 points and finish two points ahead of Joe Munro with Jonathan Kell a further point behind in 3rd. Congratulations to all who qualified. The twos for the day paid a very nice £8.50 and have been credited to your account. |
Playing the 2010 Course While you were playing on a dry course, Martin Loftus, John Colquitt, Tony Gibbons and I were walking around the mud at Celtic Manor. Both courses as great courses with the 2010 course particularly special but sometimes it takes us a round elsewhere to realise how good and how dry Sandiway is. You might see in the background the lake that Martin Loftus trolley ended up on one of the holes, I will let him tell you the full story. Thank you for a great weekend. |

2019 Arrivals It has been a busy week of opening boxes and getting the new 2019 products on display this week with the arrival of many products. One of the arrivals was the Odyssey Stroke Lab putters. It’s been a while since Odyssey have released anything as exciting as these, if you can get excited over a putter that is. Most putting strokes are inconsistent. Yet most putting technologies focus on improving alignment or the quality of roll. That’s all good, but there’s more help needed. Odyssey’s new Stroke Lab putters actually help improve the golfer’s stroke (me included), including backswing length, face angle at impact, head speed through impact and tempo, all through a profound change in weight distribution made possible by an innovative new shaft.

This is a completely new approach and only Odyssey has it, an unbelievable 54% of the field used the new Odyssey putters in Australia for the latest European Tour event. The long awaited TaylorMade M5 and M6 products have also arrived and this year I have committed to more Demo products from Taylor Made in order to fit you better. It is certainly worth a try.
The last product to arrive this week were the 2019 Adidas shoe range, in order to compete with the fantastic FootJoy Pro SL, Adidas have produced a great spikeless shoe that will certainly go down well with you Adidas fans. Click here and get in touch if you are interested and would like to know more. |
New Pro V1 It did not take long to get rid of the old Pro V1 golf balls after last week’s newsletter, with only one dozen of the PRO V1 X left. The question that everyone asks is what is the difference? |

More speed: The tag line that you’ve seen since the start of 2019. Not only are manufacturers creating golf clubs which generate more and more ball speed, the golf ball manufacturers are doing it as well. But how? How is it possible that year on year, manufacturers such as Titleist, TaylorMade and Callaway manage to stretch the limits even further? In Titleist’s case, with their new golf ball for 2019, it’s not just one small change, it’s in fact 3 big changes that the new ProV1 and ProV1x has gone through to create what they say is their fastest and best performing golf ball ever.
17% Thinner Cover: A more efficient design. The proprietary cast thermoset urethane elastomer cover system provides premium control. While great for generating high spin on approach shots and short game shots, the cover does not contribute speed. By reducing the cover thickness, Titleist have added speed while retaining the spin and control to give you the best chance to shoot your best score. New, larger casing layer: More of What's Fast. The casing layer is the speed enhancing, spin optimising layer that helps power Pro V1 and Pro V1x for exceptional distance in the long game. The new 2019 Pro V1 and Pro V1x have larger casing layers, adding more fast material to their respective designs. New, fast core: More Speed. Less Spin. Same Feel. The combination of the most advanced formulation and processing capabilities deliver powerful engines to Pro V1 and Pro V1x. The new cores have more speed and less spin while maintaining their feel characteristics and compression. Don’t just take our word for it. Put it to test yourself. |
Best looking irons ever? Wow. These irons are beautiful. Titleist irons always perform exceptionally well, both for the better player in the AP2 model as well as the AP3 iron for game-improvers. From 1st March 2019, there will be an extremely limited number of each set available in this gorgeous all-black finish. We know that it won't be for everyone's taste, but if you like the look of them as much as we do and want something that no-one else has, be sure to click on the button below and leave us a message. |

Mickelson has his eye-in Phil Mickelson endured a frustrating wait to record his fifth AT&T Pebble Beach title last weekend. Following a delayed start to Sunday's final round due to a hailstorm, Mickelson rolled back the years by executing shot after shot to find himself three ahead with just two holes remaining, before getting forced off the course due to bad light. With just 'lefty' and 54-hole leader Paul Casey taking to the course on Monday, a Mickelson win was all but a formality with just the final two holes left to navigate. And so it proved. Arguably, the most impressive feat of the week came during Mickelson's opening round, when he managed to hit every single fairway for the first time in over two decades. We all know that splitting the fairway from the tee is a sure-fire way to take shots off your game, but we also know it is no easy task. Practice makes perfect but if you find yourself going wayward more often than not, or just want to tidy up your game, then come and have a chat with us to enhance your chances of staying out of the rough.
