The Ryder Cup
There is only one way to kick things off in this week’s newsletter and that is with the Ryder Cup. An amazing 3 days of golf kept us all on the edge of our seats right from the beginning. Bjorn’s men were down after round 1 and judging by the mood floating around from most people watching, it was a ‘here we go’ scenario, expecting a USA domination from here on in. Who would’ve of bet on Europe winning round 2 by a clean sweep? Not many people, especially after the first-round result. But all of a sudden, Europe were on the front foot with a masterclass of golf on show and putting 4 out of 4 points on the board as well as putting a stop to any momentum the USA had. Are Molinari and Fleetwood our best partnership ever? Another surprise the Ryder Cup had in store for us this year is that Europe found its best performing partnership in Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood in history as they claimed wins on Friday’s Fourball & Foursomes as well as wins in Saturday’s Fourball & Foursomes, which means they have cemented their place in Ryder Cup history as the first European pairing to win 4 successive matches. All of the hard work from both teams led to Sunday of course. Europe had the advantage, but we all know well enough that lead can be lost in an instant once it comes down to the singles match-play. We most definitely didn’t want the reverse of the ‘Miracle of Medinah’ happening to us. I’m pretty sure the game plan on the Sunday didn’t start the way Bjorn particularly wanted it to with McIlroy losing the first match and opening the door slightly for the USA. At one point, matches were being tilted one way then the other and it was getting anxiously close when the lead was cut to 10.5/9.5. Thankfully though, in the end, Team Europe got to the golden number of 14.5 to secure the long awaited and thoroughly deserved win against the USA which finished on 17.5 – 10.5 once all matches were completed. The golf that was on display at times was like no other throughout the whole 3 days and whilst the trophy stays with us until 2020 at least, this Ryder Cup will most definitely be remembered over the years. |
Ladies season round up
While on the subject of fantastic achievements what about the achievement of our ladies this year. Playing at Delamere the A Team playing East Cheshire Champions, Ringway were comfortably in control winning 4 and calling in the last match. A good solid win. Sandiway B Team followed straight on pitted against Tytherington and the match was poised at 2-2 after the first 4 pairings. Solid performances from Dorothy and Brenda meant the last match was called in down 18. Another win for Sandiway! The C Team played East Winners, Bramhall with our last 2 players out giving 8 shots apiece. We just came up short, losing 3-4. Well done ladies a fantastic 2018. |

To sleeve or not to sleeve |
Being underprepared when you're out on the course is a blunder which we've all been guilty of making. As the cold weather starts rolling in, you need to start thinking about some layering pieces that keep you warm and dry, but also lets you have freedom of movement during your round. Luckily for you, we have just the answer. |
Galvin Green Diego pullover Galvin Green has given you a perfect solution, in the form of its Diego pullover. This 1/2 zip top is easy to put on and take off throughout the course of a round, and boasts four distinctive colourways - three of which you can see here. The chest pocket is also a handy feature for keeping any extra gear nice and dry during the winter months, such as your scorecard. |
|
Galvin Green Lawson gilet If you prefer the gilet look, why not try the Lawson? This vest is extremely breathable, meaning you won't be overheating during your round, even with the extra layer. The three colourways are very easy on the eye, and the front pockets add a nice dose of practability into the mix, making this body warmer the full package to be worn on and off the course. |
