I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and enjoyed the good bank holiday weather.
I must start with the fantastic day everyone had on Monday for the Captains' Drive in. 154 members played on the day, with a morning and afternoon shotgun start. The Texas Scramble format produced some fantastic scores with plenty of birdies. I am sure you will all agree that the day was very successful.
I'd like to wish all three Captains' the very best of luck for they year, and a big congratulations to Dorothy Larmour our Lady Captain for her fantastic drive.
The Ladies Spring Meeting on Thursday was played in far from Spring like weather, it was cold and breezy, but that did not stop 58 Ladies from playing. Even more impressive was the fantastic score by
Alison Hunt, playing off 5 went out in 39 and came back in one over (37) for a gross 76 nett 71. A great score
Alison.
Alison's score wasn't the only great score of the day as she will go into the second round on Thursday a shot ahead of
Tracey Atherton (72), two shot ahead of
Lee Done (73) and three shots ahead of
Barbara Laird (74).
While on the subject of poor weather conditions, the winter league final was played last week with the pairing of
Scott Dougall and
Chris Shaw victorious over
Ed Pearson and
Jonathan Kell. Congratulations
Scott and
Chris.
The best score on Sunday came from
Keith Bebbington with a nett 67, a great score considering he made a seven on the last, but eleven pars and a birdie helped
Keith to win division two.
Brian Ellis came second four shots behind while
Brian Moynihan was third a shot further back.
Division One was a very close contest, but it was
Phil Slater who took the honours with a gross 70 nett 68, no hole in ones this time but he did manage five birdies which included two twos. Well done
Phil, great score.
Andy Hulse came second and qualifies for the Lombard Trophy,
Andy and I have decided that we will play at Sandiway on
Tuesday, 27 June. Home advantage will play a huge part, and hopefully we can progress to the finals in Portugal.
Graham Sayers was third, losing out to
Andy on the back nine.
The twos for the day paid a very nice £10.24 and has been credited to your account.
Don't forget that I have a Callaway Demo day next Wednesday, 10 May between
12pm and 4pm.
Only one space available with the Callaway custom fitting expert, but don't worry Matt and I will be down on the range to assist you. Or feel free to pop down at your convenience and have a go with the latest Callaway products.
The Epic is certainly worth a hit.
If you prefer the PING products then I have a PING demo day on
Thursday, 25 May, again between
12pm and 4pm.
Still places available but they will do fast.

At the time of writing this week's content,
Matt is just about to tee off at Hesketh in the PGA Assistants Championship qualifier. He will be hoping to qualify for the finals at Coxmoor in August. I was lucky enough to play in the Finals as an assistant and it is by far the best tournament we can play as an assistant so I wish
Matt all the very best today.
I will be doing the same next Tuesday at Delamere as I try and qualify for the PGA Professionals Championship. It will be an early alarm that day with a 07:30am tee time, don't think there will be anyone putting their name forward to caddie.
It was great to play at Brough last Friday in the PGA North Region Ladies Pro-Am, my first competitive outing since last October. Two double bogeys, five bogeys and four birdies meant there wasn't many pars on the card, my +5 score finished tied 14th.
On a more positive note, my team of
Carol Newbrook, Liz Payne and
Jane Johnson played some great golf and certainly carried the Pro on most holes to finish. We ended up in a tie for 5th place with a score of -6.
A big thank you to
Liz,
Carol and
Jane for a great day, and also to
Rich Blake of Auric Vehicle Leasing for the loan of the Volkswagen Caravelle.
On Sunday for the Carnoustie Cup I will offer you the chance of a
FREE glove.
If you purchase any FootJoy glove before you play on Sunday and then manage to beat the standard scratch score of the day I will give you another glove
