Greetings golfers,
It's been another busy week here at the club yet more deliveries arrived to tempt you for the new season, but before you keep reading this week's newsletter I wanted to start off by offering a few special congratulations;
Firstly massive congratulations to Phil Slater who recorded two hole in ones during his first round Brunner match against Lee Milke on Friday morning and even more impressive he followed this with another hole in one a day later on the 6th hole during the Allen Trophy. The odds of two hole in ones during a single round is 67 million to 1, and to then get another one the very next day is extra special.
Secondly, as you all know, I am very passionate here at Sandiway about helping you get the most out of your game and it's always great from a coaches point of view to see members Matt or I have helped performing well in competitions, so special congratulations to Simon O'Connor for a nett 63 in the Midweek Medal last Wednesday (pictured below).
Thirdly a very special score in the Ladies Coronation Foursomes last Thursday deserves a huge congratulations, we all know what a difficult format Foursomes is, but not for Barbara Laird and Chris Mitchell. They were two under par gross for the first 12 holes on their way to 42 points and win the competition by 7 points.
Finally good luck and congratulations to Guy Hopley our Captain playing in his last Captain's match against Ringway on Wednesday.
You will all agree that he has been a fantastic Captain, and I wish Martyn Finney all the very best for 2017.
72 Pairs played in the popular Allen Trophy on Saturday in breezy and cold conditions. Stephen Ford and Rob Wyatt were victorious with 42 points. One point ahead of Joe Munro and David Twiss in second who beat Mike Kelsall and Phil Gertrey on a better back nine. The father and son combination of Ian and Dan Cowley finished fourth.
The twos for the day were worth £6.72 and have been credited.
I have already mentioned the fantastic winning score by Simon O'Connor in the midweek medal who finished four shots ahead of Richard Melrose, with James Edwards third with 68.
Division One winner was Mark Ashworth with a nett 68, three shots ahead of Richard Tims and Phil Gertrey.
