How Fantastic Was This Year's Masters?
It had everything, from the unbelievable putting of Jordan Spieth, to the incredible tee to green display of Dustin Johnson (if only he could putt), and of course the fantastic Sunday display from Danny Willet. I am sure you would also remember this years Masters by the sad six putts, from 3ft, of Ernie Els (Watch here). I am sure many of you, including myself, were about to go to bed when Spieth was five shots clear, with nine holes to play, when Spieth uncharacteristically hit two balls into the water on the short 12th. All of a sudden the tournament came alive and what looked like a mere formality of Spieth collecting his second Green Jacket, turned into a real battle with four golfers still in the hunt.
One by one Westwood, Dustin and then Spieth, faded away, leaving Willett as the worthy winner and only the second Englishman to win the famous Green Jacket, following Sir Nick Faldo some 20 years ago.
The ever popular sweepstake results:
1st - Clayton Danskin - £75 (Danny Willett)
2nd - Cameron Cross - £37.50 (Lee Westwood)
3rd - Dan Gurney - £37.50 (Jordan Spieth)
Worst Score of the week - Russell Cowley - sleeve of Srixon Z star (Kevin Na)
Leader after round 1 -Dan Gurney - sleeve of Srixon Z star (Jordan Spieth)
Leader after round 3 - Dan Gurney - sleeve of Srixon Z star (Jordan Spieth)
The next major will be the U.S. Open at Oakmont in June where Jordan Spieth will be hoping to retain his title, one thing for sure the greens at Oakmont will be a little different to what they were faced with at Chambers Bay last year.

Saturday's Medal
141 members took part in the first Medal of the year, on Saturday, and playing off the back tees certainly made the scoring a little higher than normal, with only the one score breaking 70. That member was Donal Cronin, who shot a net 67 to win division two, by three shots. Brian Cooper, Ron White and Alan Barker all ended with the same score of 70. With Alan Barker being the unlucky member who missed out on a voucher. In division one an unbelievable nineteen players were within three shots of the winning score. The current Brunner Bowl champion, Mark Barlow, won division one with a net 71, beating Tom Duncalf and Nic Rowland on a better back nine. The twos paid a very nice £9.43 and have been credited to your account.
Marland Trophy
Congratulations to Martin Loftus on winning the Marland Trophy, beating Andy Hulse in a very close match. With only one shot between them handicap wise it was always going to be a close match and that's how it was, with the match going to the 18th green.
Winter League Final
The Winter League final, which was played in glorious sunshine, also went all the way to the 18th, with Bruce Sutherland and Steve Turner prevailing with a 1up victory over Anthony Wildman and Mike Vernon.
The Weather Is Crowned Champion
The weather has caused havoc in both the Ladies Stableford and the Midweek medal in the last seven days, with the rain completely washing out the Ladies Stableford while the fog delayed the Midweek Medal by nearly two hours.
A Great Effort From The Ladies
The team of Lynn Berry, Hilary Stanton, Julie Dunn, Alison Green and Helen Close, were unfortunately knocked out of the Mail on Sunday Championship by Vicars Cross last week. The Sandiway team losing 3 1/2 matches to 1 1/2. After two home wins in the first two rounds the Ladies, I am sure, will be disappointed but just shows how important home advantage actually is.
Lady Captain and I lost our 100% record on Monday in our charity matches. Liz Payne and Brenda Balmer were the (lucky) winners, I felt like Jordan Spieth after our defeat but hopefully will bounce back in our next match!!
To be fair Brenda and Liz played fantastically well and I certainly was the weak link on Monday. Once again the game was played in great spirit and I look forward to the next match.
